Afghanistan: Situation analysis of disability-inclusive health systems in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

In the Eastern Mediterranean Region, an estimated one in seven people – 134 million in total – live with significant disability, and this number is growing due to increases in noncommunicable diseases and life expectancy. Some significant steps forward have been made to address the needs of persons with disabilities, yet they still face systemic and persistent health inequities across countries/territories. There is an urgent need to strengthen disability inclusion in the health sector, which is the impetus for this report.

This report aims to assess current evidence and policies on disability inclusion in the health sector in the Region. It also aims to identify issues and challenges, to provide insights that can inform and promote stronger action at the regional and national levels.
